August 2010:

On August 25th John Henry Campbell was convicted by a jury of aggravated second degree battery for burning his then girlfriend on numerous places with a hot iron.  SPD investigated. The prosecutors are Brady O'Callaghan and Kodie Smtih.

 July 2010:

On July 19th Chelsea Harrison was found guilty as charged of aggravated 2nd degree battery after a trial before a judge. The defendant threw a three pound weight through the windshield of a car striking the victim in the face causing several broken bones. The defendant and the victim were engaged in an ongoing dispute over beer.  Chelsea Harrison was ordered to jail to await sentence on August 9th. Jacob Broussard is prosecuting.

May 2010:

On May 14th, 2010 a jury convicted Michael White for the offense of second degree battery.  The defendant stabbed the victim in the back with a knife.  SPD investigated. The prosecutors are Sarah Midboe and Aaron Crawford. Sarah will seek to have the defendant adjudicated a habitual offender and the defendant could receive a life sentence.

On May 13th, 2010 a unanimous jury convicted David Shoupe of DWI 4th offense after approximately five minutes of deliberation. The defendant crashed his vehicle into two parked cars at around 2 A.M. in the Highland area on the night in question. The defendant attenpted to leave the scene on foot but was apprehended by SPD. The defendant smelled of booze but denied drinking, stating instead that he was taking the drugs Lortab, Xanax and Soma, all of which he had prescriptions for. The defendant refused to take a breath test after being given the opportunity to do so. The prosecutors are Jacob Broussard and Kenya Ellis.

On May 5th a judge convicted Sharon Mudd of manslaughter.  The defendant stabbed the victim to death.  SPD investigated. Prosecutors are Geya Prudhomme and Jordan Bird.

 April 2010:

On April 30th a judge convicted Charles Morgan of attempted 2nd degree murder. Morgan and two others shot the victim 5 times in the victim's driveway. The shooting arose out of an altercation between Morgan's cousin and the victim at the Club Disco 9000 on Hollywood. The shooters weapons of choice were a 9mm handgun, an AK-47 and a 12 gauge shotgun. SPD investigated. Jacob Broussard and Kenya Ellis prosecuted.

On April 29th a jury convicted Garrett Barton of false personation of a peace officer, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, and simple escape. Barton, who is not a peace officer, was convicted for driving around in a fake police car, displaying a fake police badge, demanding to see driver's licenses, and threatening arrest if his orders were no complied with. Barton, in his fake police costume, made an unauthorized entry into an apartment where a female occupant of the apartment was in the shower. After inquiring of her if she was alright Barton left. SPD investigated. After handcuffing Barton and putting him in a real police car Barton escaped. He was apprehended later that night, still handcuffed, trying to enter his own apartment. ben Langford and Kodie Smith prosecuted.

On April 16th Larry Lewis was convicted by a unanimous jury of possession of over 28 grams of cocaine.  SPD officer searched a residence and located scales, plastic baggies for packaging, latex gloves for crack cooking, a large amount of cash, and over 75 grams of cocaine. Larry Lewis, who was at the residence at the time of the search, admitted to police that he was a dope dealer. Prosecutors Jason Brown and Dhu Thompson will seek to have Lewis adjudicated a habitual offender and sentenced to life in prison.

March 2010:

 

On March 11th a unanimous jury convicted Barney Noel Holt III of possession of over 28 grams of methamphetamine(hereinafter referred to as meth).  Undercover agents of the joint SPD/CPSO narcotics task force purchased a large amount of meth from Holt.  While executing a search warrant at Holt’s residence agents found a loaded syringe of meth behind Holt’s ear and a much larger quantity of meth hidden at the residence.  Holt, who was previously convicted for having a meth lab, faces a mandatory life sentence.  Jason Brown is prosecuting.

February 2010:

On Feb. 18th a jury convicted James Baker of molestation of a juvenile after a trial that spread over two weeks.  The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office had investigated the case.  The prosecutors are Karelia Stewart and Geya Prudhomme.

A Caddo parish jury deliberated for less than 15 minutes before returning a guilty verdict in the second degree murder trial of Lisa Robinson.  Robinson was convicted for the stabbing of Barksdale airman Richard England in the Haystack Apartments on October 29, 2007.  The case was prosecuted by Brady O’Callaghan and Kodie Smith.  Robinson entered the apartment where England was staying through a window after having been kicked out the night before for using his girlfriend’s credit card.  SPD investigated.

On February 10, 2010 a jury convicted Broderick Brooks of second degree murder.  The trial lasted eight days, however the jury came to a decision in only  24 minutes.  Brooks was involved in a drive by shooting during which the victim was killed.  SPD investigated.  William Edwards and Sarah Midboe are the prosecutors.  Brooks is facing a mandatory life sentence at hard labor without hope of parole.

On February 2nd a jury convicted Timothy Cummings of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. After conducting an undercover purchase of crack cocaine from the defendant, agents executed a search warrant at the Levingston Motel, locating a large quantity of crack cocaine, scales, and baggies. The defendant confessed that he is a member of the bottoms boyz gang and had been released from prison three months before this arrest. Cummings began to sell narcotics again about a month before this arrest. Cummings stated he had previously sold narcotics in the '90's. SPD & CPSO investigatged. Jason Brown and Dhu Thompson are the prosecutors. Cummings disappeared during the trial. The trial went on without him. If he is ever caught Cummings is looking at a life sentence.

January 2010:

On January 27th a judge convicted Eric Baulkman of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. SPD officers, seeking the defendant on a warrant, spotted the defendant in front of an abandoned house. The defendant ran leaving his custom painted Caprice at the scene. Detectives found a large amount of marijuana in the trunk of the car. Baulkman's fingerprints were found on a plastic bag of narcotics. Jason Brown is the prosecutor and will seek to have Baulkman adjudicated a habitual offender and therefore facing up to 60 years.

On January 15th a jury convicted Eddie Johnson, Jr. of two counts of aggravated rape. The two victims were eleven year old boys who lived in the defendant's neighborhood.  The defendant would bribe the children with money and video games to let him perform oral sexual intercourse upon the victims.  The defendant was arrested for this offense in Georgia where he was stationed as a member of the United States Army. SPD investigated. The prosecutors are William J. Edwards and Sarah Midboe.

December 2009:

On Dec.1st Ronald Anderson was convicted by a jury of DWI third offense.  Anderson was stopped by SPD in downtown Shreveport for crossing lane lines.  Anderson had a strong odor of alcohol about him.  Kodie Smith prosecuted, assisted by Brady O’Callaghan.

November 2009:

On Nov. 17th a jury convicted Felton Dukes of possession of MDMA aka “ecstasy” or “X” and distribution of cocaine.  An Undercover narcotics task force agent sold Dukes  15 “ecstasy” or “X” tablets and purchased from Dukes 5 rocks of crack cocaine weighing 2.9 grams.  When Dukes was taken into custody he had the two 20 dollar bills the undercover agent gave him for the crack cocaine.  Prosecutors Jason Brown and Dhu Thompson will seek to have Dukes adjudicated a habitual offender and sentenced to life in prison.

 

 On Nov. 19th Clydell Cummings was convicted by a jury for the offense of possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.  The narcotics task force executed a search warrant in the 400 block of Pete Harris street at the Levingston apartments room no. 25.  During the execution of the search warrant Cummings jumped out the back window of the apartment, but was soon thereafter caught.  Recovered from the apartment were 142 plastic bags containing 17.31 grams of cocaine, one plastic bag containing .36 grams of cocaine, one plastic bag containing 7.69 grams of cocaine, and three plastic bags containing .12 grams of cocaine.  $1,054 in cash was seized from Cummings.  Prosecutors Jason Brown and Dhu Thompson will seek to have Cummings adjudicated a habitual offender and sentenced to life in prison.

 

On November 5th a jury convicted Kenneth Palmer of second degree murder. Palmer emptied his .357 magnum Ruger revolver, Security-Six model, into the victim and a second person who lived through the shooting. Two bullets fired by the aforementioned .357 magnum Ruger revolver, Security-Six model, were removed from the body of the dead victim at the autopsy. A .45 caliber Hi-Point pistol, JHP model with nine unfired .45 caliber rounds was recovered from the deceased. The lawyer for Palmer argued self defense, but the jury disagreed.  SPD made the case. Laura Fulco and Jacob Broussard prosecuted. Palmer will be sentenced later to mandatory life imprisonment at hard labor with no parole.

On November 5th a jury took less than an hour to find Anthony Day unanimously guilty as charged of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Day pled guilty to possession of schedule II in 2002. Narcotics agents executing a search warrant at defendant's residence located a chrome colored Bryco/Jennings 9mm semi-automatic handgun.  The gun was loaded, and had a live round in the chamber.  Post-Miranda, defendant stated the gun belonged to his girlfriend, Eisha Madison, but confessed to firing the weapon into the air on New Year's 2007.  Photographs of defendant posing with the firearm and throwing gang signs were also introduced into evidence.  Defendant's girlfriend testified that she knew for a fact that Day did not fire the weapon on New Years because they were both at KOKOPELLI'S night club that night, and she had left the gun at home.  SPD made the case. Kodie Smith and Ben Langford prosecuted.

On November 3rd a jury unanimously convicted Deterrious Blackson of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.  The firearm in question was a Remington 870 model sawed off shotgun with a pistol grip that was duck taped.  The shotgun had a spent cartridge in the chamber and four live rounds in the magazine.  Blackson's prior felony was possession of cocaine. The minimum sentence Blackson is looking at is 10 years at hard labor without parole. The maximum sentence is 15 years at hard labor with no parole. SPD made the case. Ben Langford and Kodie Smith prosecuted.

October 2009:

On October 26th a jury convicted Nelson Youngblood of second degree murder. Youngblood was convicted for the murder of a Houston woman who had come to Shreveport to sell Youngblood a large quantity of marijuana. SPD investigated.  Bill Edwards and Sarah Midboe prosecuted.

On October 26th a jury convicted Thomas Horn of second degree murder. The jury was unanimous in their decision even though the law does not require a unanimous verdict in a second degree murder trial.  The jury convicted Horn of shooting the victim twice in the head.  SPD investigated.  Dhu Thompson and Geya Prudhomme prosecuted.

On October 22nd a jury convicted Bruce Robinson, Jr. of two counts of distribution of cocaine and one count of felony theft. The case was made by the joint SPD/CPSO narcotics task force. Jason Brown and Damon Kervin prosecuted.

On October 8th a jury convicted Bruce Lee Goss of molestation of a juvenile after 35 minutes of deliberation.  The trial was in its second week.  The jury convicted Goss of molesting a 13 year old victim.  SPD investigated.  Geya Prudhomme was the lead prosecutor and was assisted by Dhu Thompson.

On October 1st a jury convicted Darren Nickles of distribution of cocaine.  All 12 jurors agreed he was guilty of selling cocaine to undercover SPD officers.  Jason Brown and Damon Kervin prosecuted.  Jason will seek to have Nickles sentenced as a multiple offender which would increase the sentencing range to 20 to life.

September 2009:

On September 18th a jury convicted Brian Garner of second degree murder after a week long trial.  Garner shot the victim 5 times and killed her.  SPD investigated.  Laura Fulco and Jacob Broussard prosecuted.

On September 16th a jury convicted 69 year old Willie Sigers of robbing an 80 year old victim at County Market on Hearne Ave.  SPD investigated. Ben Langford prosecuted and was assisted by Kodie Smith.  Ben charged Sigers with being an habitual offender immediately after the verdict was returned.

August 2009:

On August 28th Jimmy Ray White was convicted of manslaughter by a jury. White ran over with a car and killed a Byrd high school student who was acting as a good Samaritan for a stranded motorist on the side of the road.  White dumped the body several blocks away and appeared to have been drinking.  After a week long trial the jury returned a guilty as charged verdict in 20 minutes.  SPD investigated. Bill Edwards and Sarah Midboe procecuted.

On August 28th a jury convicted Corenza Kelly of second degree murder.  Kelly shot in the head and killed the owner  of a business Kelly was robbing at gunpoint.  SPD investigated.  Ben Langford was lead prosecutor and Brady O'Callaghan assisted.

On August 10th Iisha Scott was convicted by a judge of felony theft over $500.  Scott committed an internal theft at Target of approximately $12,000.  CPSO investigated.  Jacob Broussard and Aaron Crawford prosecuted. 

July 2009:

A Caddo Parish jury convicted Robert Wyatt of Aggravated Battery on July 21, 2009, for a domestic altercation last September during which he struck a woman with a NASCAR commemorative mug, smashing the mug and injuring the victim.  The case was prosecuted by Kodie Smith and Ben Langford.

On July 22nd John Edward Marshall was convicted by a jury of distribution of cocaine.  SPD made the case during an undercover operation in the Cedar Grove area of Shreveport.  Jason Brown prosecuted and is seeking to have Marshall declared an habitual offender and therefore subject to a life sentence.

On July 13th a jury convicted Steve Roberts of DWI 4th offense. Roberts drove his pick-up truck in to the kitchen of a citizen minding his own business around midnight on the night of the arrest.  SPD made the case, Ben Bleich and Sarah Midboe prosecuted.

On July 9th Lucien Trammel was convicted by a jury of attempted first degree murder of a Shreveport police officer.  Trammel shot the officer in the face after the officer had approached Trammel while conducting an investigation of some neighborhood burglaries.  Dhu Thompson and Geya Prudhomme prosecuted.

Also on July 9th, Marcus James Anderson was convicted by a judge for the offense of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance. SPD & CPSO officers stopped the defendant for loud music.  The defendant had a one pound brick of marijuana under the seat and a .38 revolver in the glove box.  Jason Brown prosecuted. 

June 2009:

Around 3 a.m. on Saturday, June 20th, a jury convicted Donald J. Aaron for the offense of negligent homicide.  The defendant shot and killed a man on the street the defendant lived on.  Laura Fulco and Jacob Broussard prosecuted.

May 2009:

A Caddo Parish jury took one hour to return a sentence of death for defendant Felton Dorsey on May 28, 2009. Dorsey was convicted of first degree murder in the beating death of retired Caddo fire Captain Joe Prock. Prock interrupted Dorsey and another man, Randy Wilson, while they were robbing the home of his 79 year old mother.  Joe Prock was bound and beaten, and he and his mother were left to die in a house fire set by the men. The case was prosecuted by Brady O'Callaghan and Dhu Thompson, and was investigated by the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office.

On May 21st Delvin Jerome  Law was convicted by a jury for the offense of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. A unanimous verdict was returned in seven minutes. Law was found in a rental car next to a crack house in a high crime area at two a.m.  SPD & CPSO officers searched the car and found crack and a 357 semi-automatic pistol. Jason Brown and Damon Kervin prosecuted. 

March 2009:

On March 23rd a jury convicted Lynette Blow of two counts of solicitation of murder.  The defendant attempted to hire two guys to kill her husband for $5,000 down and $5,000 after completion of the job. Both of the individuals declined the job and testified at the trial.  CPSO investigated.  Jacob Broussard was lead prosecutor and was assisted by Laura Fulco.

 

 

On March 19th a jury unanimously convicted Rodney Johnson of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.  SPD and CPSO joint narcotics task force agents were conducting a city wide search for drug dealers when they came upon this defendant in possession of 24 packages of cocaine.  The defendant told the agents he was holding the narcotics for some one else.  Since the defendant has prior convictions for vehicular homicide and attempted distribution of cocaine lead prosecutor Damon Kervin will seek to have the defendant sentenced to life in prison.  Jason Brown assisted in the prosecution.

 

Also on March 19th a jury convicted Johnathan Givens of manslaughter for the killing of a 20 month old in his care.  SPD  investigated. Bill Edwards and Sarah Midboe prosecuted.

On March 11, 2009 Jessie James Williams was found guilty as charged of attempted second degree murder by a jury which returned a unanimous verdict.  The defendant slashed the victim’s throat with a shard of glass in an attack in an abandoned house in Shreveport.  SPD investigated.  The defendant has previously been convicted of forcible rape, for which offense he was  paroled less than five months before committing the instant offense.  Lead prosecutor Ben Langford immediately filed a second felony habitual offender charge.  If the court finds the defendant an habitual offender, the defendant faces a minimum 25 years to a maximum 100 years at hard labor without benefit of parole.  Kodie Smith assisted in the prosecution.

 

February 2009:

 

 

On Feb. 26th Rodney E. Fikes was convicted before a judge of distribution of cocaine.  SPD & CPSO narcotics agents were conducting a city wide buy operation when this defendant contacted an undercover agent and sold the agent crack cocaine.  Prosecutor Jason Brown is proceeding against the defendant as an habitual offender.  If Brown is successful Fikes will receive a life sentence.

 

 

On Feb. 13th a jury convicted James Mitchell of manufacturing a schedule two controlled dangerous substance, methamphetamine (meth).  Mitchell was arrested by officers of the CPSO narcotics task force at a house where meth residue was found.  A car in the driveway had a mobile meth lab in the trunk, in which meth was in the process of being manufactured, along with Mitchell’s social security card and a credit card application for Mitchell. During the trial’s second day Mitchell failed to return from the noon recess.  The trial continued without Mitchell.  A warrant has been issued for his arrest.  Prosecutor Jason Brown charged Mitchell with being an habitual offender right after the verdict which could result in Mitchell receiving a life sentence once he is caught.  Damon Kervin also prosecuted.

 On Feb.11 Lloyd Bobo,Jr. was convicted by a jury of the offences of possession of marijuana, cocaine, and ecstasy all with intent to distribute.  SPD officers made a traffic stop in the Cedar Grove area because Mr.Bobo failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign, failed to employ the turn signal when making a turn, and was speeding.  While conducting the stop the officers learned Mr. Bobo had a warrant out for his arrest.  After transporting Mr. Bobo to the police station and removing Mr. Bobo from the police car, officers discovered approximately a quarter ounce of marijuana, 14 grams of cocaine(13 of crack and 1 of powder) and 90 hits of ecstasy, that were not in the back seat of the police car when Mr.Bobbo was placed there after his arrest . Police also recovered $1700 in cash from Mr. Bobo’s person.  Jason Brown prosecuted.

January 2009:

Mario Stewart was found guilty of second degree murder on January 20, 2009, after the jury deliberated only 40 minutes.  On Christmas Eve of 2003, Caddo Parish sheriff’s deputies and Fire District 1 personnel responded to a citizen’s call that they had heard gunshots and found a man on a country road in North Caddo Parish.  The victim, Curtis Ewing, told first responders that “Mario” had shot him before being transported to LSUMC, where he died soon thereafter from multiple gunshot wounds.  CPSO investigation revealed that the victim was last seen in the company of the defendant and one Drexel Tolliver, who testified that the defendant had killed the victim for money.  Brady O’Callaghan and Ben Langford prosecuted.

 

 

On Jan. 16th Calvin Wilson, Sr. was found guilty as charged by a judge for the offenses of possession marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine.  The defendant was seen throwing a bag down as SPD officers approached a known drug distribution corner.  The bag contained marijuana and cocaine.  At the preliminary examination the defendant testified he never possessed cocaine, however he admitted possession of the marijuana, with the caveat that he was to give the marijuana to someone else, thus admitting possessing the marijuana with the intent to distribute.  After finding the defendant guilty the judge sentenced the defendant immediately to six years on the possession of marijuana with intent to distribute charge and three years on the cocaine charge, both sentences to run at the same time.  Prosecutor Jason Brown will seek to have the sentence amended to life imprisonment due to the defendant’s lengthy criminal record.

On Jan. 9th Wadelin Sumlin was convicted by a jury of the offenses of second degree murder and att. 2nd degree murder.  Sumlin shot one victim ten times killing him, and shot the other victim six times.  SPD investigated.  Dale Cox prosecuted.  Sumlin faces life imprisonment without parole on the murder conviction alone.

December 2008:

On December 11th a jury convicted Fate Vincent Winslow guilty as charged of distribution of marijuana. The defendant had the marked money used to make the purchase in his possession at the time of his arrest. Due to the defendant's record prosecutors Jason Brown and Damon Kervin will seek to have the defendant sentenced to life imprisonment as a habitual offender.  SPD vice made the case against the defendant. 

November 2008:

On November 24th Juan Garcia was convicted of aggravated rape, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, and two counts of armed robbery in a trial before a judge.  SPD investigated. Bill Edwards prosecuted.

On November 19 a jury convicted Stacy Linnear of second degree battery. The defendant beat the victim unconscious, causing the victim's brain to bleed, as well as breaking the victim's jaw in three places, and knocking out some of the victim's teeth. The victim was unconscious for about three days and spent over a week in the hospital. The beating took place at Kokopellis, a Shreveport night club, located near the riverfront. SPD investigated. The case is prosecuted by Sarah Midboe and Bill Edwards.

On November 19 Raffaelous White was convicted by a judge as charged for the offense of distribution of cocaine. The defendant sold cocaine to an undercover SPD officer. White has enough prior felonies to face a possible life sentence as an habitual offender. Jason Brown is prosecuting.

On November 6 a jury voted 12-0 to convict Calvin Breakfield of aggravated rape.  Breakfield will be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for the brutal rape and beating of the 81 year old victim.  SPD investigated. Laura Fulco was the lead prosecutor and was ably assisted by Jacob Broussard. 

October 2008:

On October 28 Dennis Walpool was convicted of illegal use of a weapon after a trial by judge.  Walpool discharged a firearm outside the Disco 9000, striking one person, in the early morning hours of new year's day 2007.  SPD investigated. Sarah Midboe prosecuted.

On October 24 Charles Burns was convicted of one count of simple burglary and two counts of attempted simple burglary by a jury. Burns burglarized a service station, and attempted to burglarize another. Burns had previously been sent to prison for burglarizing the same service station and only been out of prison for a short time when he committed this offense. SPD made the case against Burns. Ben Cormier prosecuted and will seek to have Burns declared a habitual offender and sentenced to life.

On October 23 Tyrone Gipson was convicted by a jury for possession of over 28 grams of cocaine, possession of ecstasy, and possession of hydrocodone. SPD discovered the drugs while conducting a knock and talk at a hotel. After a mighty struggle the defendant was subdued and taken into custody. Jason Brown on behalf of the state of Louisiana will seek to have Gipson sentenced to life in prison under the habitual offender law.

On October 21 Ronnie Burks was convicted in a felony bench trial for the offense of battery on a correctional officer.  Burks slugged a deputy while at the Caddo Correctional Center.  CPSO investigated.  The prosecutor is Dhu Thompson.

On October 17th a Caddo parish jury convicted Anthony Ashley of aggravated kidnapping, first degree robbery, aggravated flight, and attempted forcible rape.  The 19 year old victim was kidnapped from an ATM machine by the defendant. The victim was tied up and forced to smoke crack and perform sexual acts.  The defendant's palm print was on the victim's car and defendant's DNA was on a cigarette butt recovered at the scene.  The defendant will get at least life in prison. The prosecutors are Laura Fulco and Jacob Broussard.  SPD investigated.

On October 15, 2008 a Caddo parish jury took just over an hour to convict Mark Wiggins of second degree robbery as a principle to his girlfriend Ashley Smith.  Smith attacked an 82 year old woman in the Super One parking lot on Jewella Avenue.  When a good Samaritan intervened and struggled with Smith, Wiggins joined in the fray by attacking the benevolent interloper.  The state will seek to multi-bill Wiggins.  Prosecuting the case is R. Bennett Langford, who was assisted by F. Stanton Hardee.  SPD investigated. 

September 2008:

On September 11th O.L. Green, Jr. was convicted by a judge for possession of marijuana, third offense.  While being escorted from Koko Pellis nightclub, Green tried to hand a bag of marijuana to someone else, and dropped the bag in front of a Shreveport city marshall.  CPSO was also involved in the investigation.  Green has two prior felony drug convictions and is looking at 0 to 20 years hard labor.  The prosecutor is Jason Brown.

On September 10th Eldridge Clinton was convicted by a judge of possession of over 28 grams of crack cocaine. SPD & CPSO executed a search warrant and found Clinton in possession of 40 grams of crack cocaine and weapons.  The prosecutor was Jason Brown.

August 2008:

On August 28th Roderick Clark was found guilty as charged of aggravated battery by a jury.  Clark knifed and beat his father about the head.  SPD worked the case and acutally witnessed some of the beating.   The prosecutors are Geya Prudhomme and Natalie Howell.

On August 28th, Anthony Mandigo was convicted of possessing over 28 grams of cocaine, after a trial before a judge.  Narcotics agents investigating the defendant for natcotics distribution attempted to stop him in his vehicle when the defendant fled.  While being chased by the agents the defendant tossed 62 grams of cocaine out of the vehicle.  The defendant was ultimately stopped, but fought with the police, who then tasered the defendant.  Investigating agents were from CPSO, SPD, and DEA.  The prosecutor was Jason Brown.

On August 21st Tiffany Woods and Emmanuel Scott were convicted of second degree murder which carries a mandatory life sentence in a trial before a judge.  The two defendants were convicted of letting their infant child starve to death.  Medical testimony established that the infant died of prolonged malnutrition, even though the refrigerator at the home had plenty of beer and food in it.  SPD investigated.  Brady O'Callaghan prosecuted.

On August 20th Steven Dewayne Roundtree was found guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in a trial before a judge.  The prosecutor was Ben Langford.  The case was made by the Shreveport City Marshall's office who found Roundtree in possession of a .380 semiautomatic handgun after forcibly entereing Roundtree's residence to execute a warrant.  The gun was found stuffed between a mattress and a box spring.  The box the gun came in was located in a nightstand next to the bed.  The box contained Roundtree's ID and ammo.

On August 19th a jury convicted Eddie Wallace of burglary.  Wallace broke into an enclosed porch and stole a television, on January 16, 2008.  SPD investigated.  The prosecutors were Stan Hardee and Brady O'Callaghan.

On 8-15-08 Demetrius Bradley was convicted of 2 counts of armed robbery with a firearm in trial before a judge.  Bradley and three others wearing ski masks and gloves held employees of a liquor store at bay with guns and got away with $3,000.  One of the other three robbers has already received a life sentence.  Another of the four is awaiting sentence and the fourth robber was never caught.  Bradley is looking at a sentencing range of 66-198 years.  SPD, the FBI, and the Bossier sheriff's office investigated.  The prosecutors are Dhu Thompson and Dale Cox. 

July 2008:

During the week of July 21st, Deontrell Runash Sloan was convicted by a jury for the offenses of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm while in possession of cocaine.  SPD and CPSO investigated the case.  A traffic stop of the vehicle in which the defendant was the lone occupant resulted in the seizing of crack cocaine digital scales, and a .38 Colt pistol.  The prosecutors were Jason Brown and Dhu Thompson.

Flenory Frasier, III was convicted by a jury on July 24 of the offense of attempted possession of marijuana, second offense, and attempted possession of cocaine.  The case was investigated by SPD and CPSO. The prosecutor is Damon Kervin.  Damon Kervin, on behalf of the state of Louisiana, will seek to have Frazier sentenced by Judge Roy Brun as an habitual offender.

On July 22 Richard Lee Howard was convicted by a jury of aggravated burglary.  Howard broke into a home, armed with a pistol, and robbed the inhabitants of the home of a laptop and purse.  SPD investigated and the prosecutor was Jacob Broussard. 

June 2008: 

On June 28th a Caddo Parish jury convicted Roderick "Ricky" Moore, an 18 year veteran of the Shreveport Police Department, of distribution of powder cocaine and hydrocodone to a dancer at the DEJA VU club.  Moore gave the dancer drugs in the hope of receiving sexual favors in return.  Moore was brought to justice by the combined efforts of SPD and CPSO.  The prosecutors were Damon Kervin, Jason Brown and Karelia Stewart.

On June 20th, a Caddo Parish jury convicted John R. Thomas of two counts of aggravated rape and two counts of molestation.  The jury found that the defendant had sexually assaulted four children.  SPD had investigated the case.  The prosecutors were Geya Prudhomme and Ron Stamps.  The jury was out less than an hour. 

May 2008:

On May 21, James Ware was convicted by a jury of 2 counts of molestation of a juvenile. CPSO investigated the case. The prosecutors were Jacob Broussard and Ron Stamps. The defendant molested two children at his trailer.

 On May 15th Randy Marshall was convicted of 2nd degree murder in a bench trial. 2nd degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence at hard labor without benefit of parole. The defendant, while robbing a domino game at gunpoint, shot and killed one of the participants of the game. SPD conducted the investigation. The prosecutor was Dhu Thompson.

On May 7th a jury convicted Willie Griffin, Jr. of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The prosecutors were Ben Cormier and Bill Edwards. The case was made by SPD. The defendant was found to be possession of a .22 cal. over and under derringer. The defendant's prior felony is sexual battery.

 

April 2008:

On April 25th a unanimous jury convicted Brandon Davis of first degree murder. Davis had kidnapped, raped, and burned the victim to death. CPSO worked the case. The prosecutors were Bill Edwards, Dhu Thompson, and Sarah Midboe.

James Lee Cass was convicted April 16th by a unanimous jury verdict of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Agents of SPD and the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at the defendant's residence and recovered 42.2 grams of marijuana and $1000 cash. At the scene the defendant told officers he was a dealer. At trial the defendant denied being a dealer and having said so to the agents. Apparently the jury thought otherwise. Prosecutors were Jason Brown and Damon Kervin.

 Ron Laster was convicted by a jury of three counts of armed robbery. The prosecutors were Sarah Midboe and Dhu Thompson. SPD made the case. The defendant committed these armed robberies while traveling through Shreveport after attending Madi Gras festivities in New Orleans.

Bobby Wallace and Glen Young were convicted Friday by a jury for possession of over 28 grams of cocaine. Glen Young was also convicted of illegal use of a weapon, a charge that Bobby Wallace was found not guilty of. SPD executed a search warrant at the residence of Glen Young and recovered 31 grams of powder cocaine and two electronic scales, one of which bore the fingerprint of Bobby Wallace. Also recovered was a .40 caliber glock pistol which the crime lab identified as having ejected 6 shell casings that had been recovered at the scene of an earlier shooting, that had resulted in the shooting out of a back window and two tires of a vehicle carrying three people, one of whom was a two year old child. Prosecutors were Damon Kervin and Jason Brown.

 

 Aaron McKinney, whose street name is "dinosaur", was convicted today by a jury for the offense of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The lead prosecutor was Stan Hardee, assisted by Brady O'Callaghan. SPD made a traffic stop that led to the recovery of a loaded Czechoslovakian military surplus pistol from the vehicle the defendant was driving. The defendant was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was previously convicted of a felony drug offense.

 Jimmy Joseph Yates was convicted by a Caddo Parish jury of indecent behavior with a juvenile. Lead prosecutor was Ben Langford, assisted by Stan Hardee. The case was made by the Northwest Louisiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, an agent of which posed as a 15 year old girl, to which Yates sent lewd communications via the internet.

March 2008:

Daniel Elliot was convicted by a jury on 3/13/08 for the offense of attempted aggravated incest. The prosecutors were Ben Langford and Brady O'Callaghan. SPD investigated the case.


 

February 2008:

Truong Phan was convicted by a jury of his peers of attempted second degree murder of his ex-wife's new boyfriend at Serenity Spa on Youree Drive.  Judge Mosely presided.  Prosecutors where Ron Stamps and Jacob Broussard.  SPD investigated.

 

 

January 2008:

Shirley T. Davis was convicted by a jury before the Hon. Charles Scott of possession of over 200 grams of cocaine.  Shreveport Police Dept. and Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office narcotics agents executed a search warrant at the defendant's residence where the agents found 361 grams of cocaine and 3 scales.  The prosecutors were Jason Brown and Damon Kervin.

John Love Robinson was convicted by a jury before the Hon. Charles Scott for possession of heroin with intent to distribute.  The prosecutors were Jason Brown and Damon Kervin.  Shreveport Police Dept. and the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office narcotics agents made the case.  A Special Response Team hit the defendant's residence where they found the defendant wearing surgical gloves and in possession of scales.  The defendant had flushed heroin down the toilet as the SRT team hit the door.  2.4 grams of heroin was recovered from the sewage pipe.

Xavier Rushing was found guilty of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and illegal possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled dangerous substance.  This was a felony bench trial before the Hon. Charles Scott.  A Shreveport Police officer approached the defendant's parked vehicle and saw him toss his firearm from his lap to the floorboard.  A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of crack cocaine on a plate with a razor blade and some small baggies.  The defendant admitted to police he was selling crack in Allendale.  The prosecutor was Jason Brown.

Lloyd Nelson was convicted by a jury of burglary and theft before the Hon. John Mosely.  The case was made by Shreveport Police Dept. and the prosecutor was Jacob Broussard.  The defendant stripped copper wiring out of the inside of a vacant house, as well as stole copper pipes from underneath the house.

On January 25, Charles Evans (d.o.b. 4-11-82) was indicted for  first degree murder by a Caddo Parish grand jury. The grand jury also indicted James E. Mason, Jr. (d.o.b. 11-17-66) for second degree murder. Both men were indicted in the shooting death of 16-year-old Latora Wiley, a Shreveport teenager who was allegely among a group of individuals who had  been involved in an argument with Evans and Mason prior to the shooting.

Evans allegedly fired shots into the crowd, killing Wiley and wounding 17-year-old Terance Washington.  Mason allegedly was the driver of the vehicle from which the shots were fired. Both men have been arraigned and will stand trial sometime in March.

The same grand jury also indicted the following individuals:

-- Jayce Cummings (d.o.b. 3-4-48) for the aggravated rape of a 14-year-old girl. Cummings allegedly raped a friend's teenaged daughter at gunpoint last year. He has been in custody since shortly after the incident.

-- Adrian Salone (d.o.b. 10-2-81) for allegedly raping an 11-year-old relative over a period of several weeks in mid-2007. He has been in custody since shortly after the offense.

On January 17, 2008 defendant Bobby Sims was convicted of possessing over 28 grams of cocaine.  This was a felony bench trial before the Honorable Charles Scott.  The prosecutor was Jason Brown.  The case was made by the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office during an investigation of crack sales from a Shreveport motel.  Bobby Sims was found to have close to 40 grams of cocaine stuffed in his pants.

Defendant Howell Ealy was found guilty on 2 counts of aggravated battery on 1/16/08.  Ealy attacked his girlfriend and her friend during a domestic altercation, using a coat rack to injure both women.  The defendant was convicted on both counts even though the defendant's girlfriend did not testify against him, making this a successful "victimless" prosecution.  Ben Langford and Karelia Stewart were the prosecutors. The Honorable Jeannette Garrett was the judge.

Defendant David Pugh, Jr. was convicted of 1 count of molestation of a juvenile.  The defendant, who was 32 years old in 2002, picked up a then 14 year old girl and had forcible intercourse with her in his car.  DNA established that he was the father of her child born later that year.  The defendant returns before Judge Jeannette Garrett for sentencing on February 7, 2008.  Ben Langford was lead prosecutor and was assisted by Brady O'Callaghan. 

 

The Caddo District Attorney's high profile cases for December 2007:

Defendant Richard Lee Davis was charged with aggravated rape of a 5 yr. old juvenile from October '04 through January '05. He and his girlfriend, would watch the child and her siblings over night and bring the girl into their room. She was raped orally and vaginally. The defendant was also charged with indecent behavior with juveniles involving a 16 year old girl from 1996 and 1997. He prostituted that young girl and was convicted for promoting prostitution in Bossier.

Lea R. Hall, Jr., Brady D. O'Callaghan, Hugo A. Holland, and Sarah Midboe prosecuted the case.

The jury convicted him on both counts on December 10th. Penalty phase began on the aggravated rape count Dec. 11th, and on Dec. 12th. The jury decided that the defendant should be put to death. The Honorable Scott J. Crichton was the judge.

Defendant Marvin Wayne Roberson was convicted of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine by a jury. The judge was the Hon. Charles Scott. The prosecutor was Damon Kervin. The Shreveport Police Department and the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office investigated the case.

 

 


The Caddo District Attorney's office tried four cases involving major offenders during the week of November 12, 2007. The office convicted all four defendants:

Defendant S. L. Williams, Jr. was convicted by a jury of distribution of cocaine. An SPD undercover narcotics operation led to this prosecution. The prosecutor was Damon Kervin.  The judge was the Hon. Charles Scott. Williams faces a sentence of two to thirty years at hard labor.

Defendant Christopher O'Neal was convicted by a jury of second degree murder. The victim was shot twice in the head with a 9mm pistol that was seized by SPD officers soon after the killing. The weapon was located under the driver's seat of the vehicle the defendant was driving. The prosecutors were Brady O'Callahan and Dhu Thompson. The judge was the Hon. Scott Crichton. O'Neal faces a sentence of life in prison.

Dedendant Cameron Diggs was convicted before the Hon. Ramona Emanuel of aggravated rape and armed robbery. The victim was raped and robbed by the defendant at gunpoint. The defendant admitted involvement but claimed the gun was a toy. SPD officers found the defendant's DNA and fingerprints at the scene of the crime. The prosecutors were William Edwards and Sarah Midboe. Diggs faces a sentence of life in prison.

Defendant Graley Roberson was convicted by a jury of possession of over 400 grams of cocaine. An SPD/CPSO narcotics joint task force investigation led to this prosecution.  The prosecutor was Edward Brossette. The judge was the Hon. Charles Scott.  Roberson faces a sentence of not less than fifteen years to thirty years at hard labor. 



 


Cedric Russell was convicted by a jury of possession of coke with intent to distribute before Judge Mike Pitman.  SPD found 16 grams of coke under the perp's house.  Prosecutors were Damon Kervin and Jason Brown.
