Victim Assistance

The purpose of the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Victim Assistance Program is to provide information, support, and assistance to crime victims and their family members.  Victim Assistance Coordinators assist victims of crime who have an active case being prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Office by providing the following services:
  • Liaison between victims and prosecutors by arranging for victims to meet with Assistant District Attorneys in order to provide input and ask questions about their cases.
  • Planning and assistance for safety and protection.
  • Referrals for community resources such as financial assistance, counseling services, shelter, law enforcement contacts, and the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System (LAVNS).
  • Explanation of the court process and ongoing information regarding their cases.
  • Orientation to court facilities; provision of a separate and safe waiting area; and accompaniment and support during court proceedings.
  • Assistance in trial preparation for victims who are needed to testify, especially minor victims.
  • Assistance in offering Victim Impact Statements to the court.
  • Assistance with applying for notification of an inmate’s status with the Department of Corrections.
