A Shreveport man pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted aggravated rape Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in Caddo District Court, after nine members of a jury to decide his guilt or innocence of aggravated rape had been selected.
Cordero Ewing, 27, now faces up to 30 years in prison, with sentencing to be determined by the court, presided over by Caddo District Judge John D. Mosely Jr.
Ewing’s sentencing date will be set at his next court appearance on June 27.
Ewing, originally from Homer, was arrested and incarcerated in October 2012, after he was accused of performing sexual acts on an 8-year-old girl. Due to the age of the victim, had he been convicted of the crime for which he was arrested, he could have been sentenced to mandatory life in prison.
The crime for which Ewing was arrested was reclassified under Louisiana Revised Statutes last August as “first degree rape.”
Prosecutors were ADAs Britney A. Green and Ron Stamps. Defense attorneys were Michelle Andrepont and Michael Enright.
