SHREVEPORT, La –
Some local football players had a great opportunity Saturday as the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Youth Football Camp held it’s inaugural session at Lee Hedges Stadium.
The camp was full of NFL players like Ravens quarterback and Texas High alum Ryan Mallett.
Mallett was joined by guys like fellow Arkansas teammate and Kansas City Chiefs running back Knile Davis, Jeremy Mincey, giants wideout Dwayne Harris.
And as fun as the day was for the kids, the pros also enjoyed giving back to our area’s youth, “Being around kids from around the area where I grew up is important to me. It’s been a lot of fun today. It’s good to get back home and just be out here. I used to be one of those kids at the camp. All the guys I used to see, I tried to be like those guys,” said Mallett.
“It’s good for the kids and good for the parents. Any time growing up that I had the chance to participate in a camp like this, I took it. We didn’t have NFL stars there, we just had school coaches. To have an NFL guy or guys there, it’s huge for the kids. They enjoy it and take to it well,” added Davis.
“We’re all here in one area, sharing our stories, sharing our time, sharing our love. It’s always great to come back and give to the community and give these kids hope. Hopefully we see some of these faces on the same fields that we played on somewhere down the line,” explained Mincey.
“When I was a younger kid, Nathan Vasher would come back and guys like that when I was in Texarkana. It would mean so much to me to think, man those guys are from here, so I have a chance. It doesn’t matter where you’re from. That’s what I want to portray to these kids. You just keep working, keep grinding, and the sky’s the limit for you, no matter what,” said Mallett.
