It took a Caddo Parish jury just over an hour Thursday (July 28, 2016) to determine that an Oil City man took indecent liberties with a child under age 13 three years ago.

Benjamin Michael Floyd, 39, faces up to 25 years in prison for his conviction of indecent behavior with a juvenile. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of at least two years without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence when he next faces Caddo District Judge Katherine Dorroh Aug. 10.

Floyd has a previous armed robbery conviction in Bossier Parish, and Caddo prosecutors plan to seek habitual offender enhancements in sentencing.

On Aug. 9, the court will conduct proceedings on contempt of court charges lodged against two witnesses in the case, Crystal Shoptaw and Patricia Floyd.

Floyd’s trial began Tuesday. (July 26, 2016) The seven-woman, five-man jury returned with its unanimous verdict just before 8 p.m.
