A Tennessee woman was convicted Thursday, July 28, 2016 in Caddo District Court of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and faces up to six years in prison.
Annternette Denise Lattin, 29, of Memphis, Tennessee, was found guilty of breaking into the apartment of her child’s father in late November 2014 in an attempt to take the child. A seven-woman, five-man jury deliberated about 40 minutes before delivering the verdict in the courtroom of Caddo District Judge Ramona Emanuel. Jury selection began Wednesday.
The jury determined that Lattin visited her child’s father’s apartment on Nov. 26, 2014, the day before Thanksgiving, to visit her child and once holding him, attempted to run away.
The father, James Leachman, reclaimed the child and went back inside, after which Lattin, her sister and a man who was never found broke through the front door of the apartment and started fighting Leachman and his girlfriend, Miriam Ochoa. Ochoa escaped and called police, who found Lattin and her sister and arrested them.
Leachman, Ochoa and the child suffered several bruises and cuts and Leachman also had a black eye. Witness testimony during the trial established a history of Lattin taking the child and leaving the state.
Lattin, incarcerated at Caddo Correctional Center, will return to court Aug. 3, 2016, for further proceedings.
Prosecutors were Caddo Parish Assistant District Attorneys Aaron Crawford and William Gaskins. Lattin was defended by Kurt Goins.
