A Caddo Parish jury on Tuesday (October 18, 2016) found a Grant Parish man guilty of aggravated rapes committed in Caddo Parish more than 30 years ago.
Roy Leon Robertson, 75, of Montgomery, was found guilty by a five-man seven-woman jury in District Judge Katherine Dorroh’s courtroom. Proceedings began Monday, October 17, 2016. The jury retired at 11:27 a.m. and returned at noon with its unanimous verdict.
Robertson was indicted in November 2015 and charged with rapes that occurred between February 1972 and February 1976, a span during which the one victim named in the indictment was between ages 8 and 12. He raped her and another close female relative while they were living in Caddo Parish attending elementary school. The girls never reported the attacks to police but did eventually tell their mother. Then in 2013 another female relative, 13 years old at the time, walked into her school in Winn Parish and said he had been raping her as long as she could remember. The attacks were investigated by the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office.
All three victims testified and have expressed the desire to speak at Robertson’s sentencing scheduled for October 27 before Judge Dorroh. He faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of probation, parole or reduction in sentence.
Assistant District Attorneys Ross Owen and Jason Waltman tried the case for the state, while David McClatchey served as Robertson’s defense attorney.
