A Bossier City man scheduled for trial this week in Caddo District Court pleaded guilty just prior to jury selection Monday, January 22, 2018.

Johnny Charles Harris Sr., 53, pleaded guilty as charged to aggravated battery upon his former girlfriend, a crime that carries a penalty of one to 10 years in prison. Harris struck his former girlfriend in the head with a handgun.

Harris also pleaded guilty as charged to the domestic-abuse aggravated assault upon his 12-year-old daughter, a crime that carries a penalty of from one to five years at hard labor. He pointed the handgun at his daughter and threatened to shoot her after he hit her mother, the former girlfriend struck with the weapon.

Caddo District Judge John D. Mosely Sr. sentenced Harris to seven years for the aggravated battery and the maximum sentence of five years for the assault.

Harris qualifies to be sentenced under as a habitual offender, which the prosecutors, Assistant District Attorneys Pam Moser and Sam Crichton, intend to pursue.

Harris was defended by Michael Enright.
