Pernell Antonio Washington, found guilty-as-charged by a Caddo Parish jury in 2020 of raping two children, had his original sentence of life imprisonment without parole reinstated by the Louisiana Supreme Court.

The ruling, issued Tuesday, May 3, 2022, was instigated at the urging of the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s office.

The unanimous guilty verdicts were for aggravated rape of a child who was 5 and 10 years old at the time, and for the third-degree rape of another child.

After the Second Circuit Court of Appeal amended Washington’s life sentence to allow for parole eligibility because Washington was a juvenile when some of the crimes occurred, the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s office sought review of that decision with the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Tuesday’s decision by the Supreme Court denies Washington the opportunity to be released on parole in the future.

The case was prosecuted by Treneisha Hill and Senae D Hall at trial and by Tommy Johnson on appeal.
